Sorry, that wasn't clear to me. I had seen the note but it was my intention to disable self-alignment. This to set the alignment myself in a markup script. I suppose it is the text in the IR that mislead me: "The horizontal amount that this object is moved relative to its X-parent."

May I suggest to change this text to make this behavior clear. If I understand it correctly then this text describes the intended behavior:

This procedure is used to align this object to the X-parents as defined with break-align-symbols. Setting x-offset to a fixed value will ignore break-align-symbols and the resulting offset will be relative to the staff-bar.
