Actually, I have reread the patch as diff again. It is straightforward and
simple. It passes regtests (yes, I know, this sentence is not all that
convincing coming from me). I checked the lexer for backup states.
As opposed to the last patch, I am pretty confident that I got this right,
and did nothing except what it required for fixing this problem.
So I am pushing.
