New issue 2377 by v.villen...@gmail.com: Enhancement: ancient cross-shaped
ornament (prall)
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2377
(I'm adding this directly to the tracker to save the Bug Squad a couple of
minutes.)
French users have been asking for an ornament that's found in some ancient
scores; for example you may have a look at this original edition of a
motetus by Campra:

As you can see on the first staff, some notes are preceded with a small
cross, that is _not_ an accidental, but actually some sort of a prall.
(Evidence also suggests it should ideally not collide with staff lines.)
I think Lily already has the appropriate glyph; what we do lack, however,
is a suitable way of placing a sign _inside_ the staff, before the note,
that is NOT an accidental. The only workaround I came up with is a hack
around a Fingering object:

Hopefully there's a simple way of supporting that. (But we may regard it as
very low-priority.)
