- The composer (Justin Connolly) writes all brackets thus; - The editor requires it to be reproduced (this is intended for publication); - Apparently it is common (normal?) practice for rhythmically complex modern piano music (at least).
I also have to make all tuplet brackets horizontal, but I was able to remove that from the example.
