Here's an attempt to clarify the situation: As far as i understand it, debian's general resolution in 2006 allows distribution of GFDL'ed works as long as the work meets the following standards: >> This means that works that don't include any Invariant Sections, Cover >> Texts, Acknowledgements, and Dedications (or that do, but permission to >> remove them is explicitly granted), are suitable for the main component >> of our distribution. the entire resolution (and its losing variants) can be read here: http://www.debian.org/vote/2006/vote_001#amendmenttexta However, mailutils.info-2 contains Front and Back Cover Texts and an acknowledgements section, which the GFDL explcitly prohibits modification of. If mailutils was willing to drop the cover text requirements and re-title the Acknowledgements section (e.g. to "Thanks"), or was willing to relicense the documentation under a freer license than the GFDL, then i believe debian would distribute the documentation. --dkg
