I took a brief look at this and all I can see is that slightly different preprocessor symbols are checked in the .h and .c files. Try editing make.h and change line 391 from this: #ifdef __STDC__ && __STDC__ to this: #if __STDC__ && HAVE_STDVARARGS and see if that helps.
