That's probably coming from one of your startup dot files (.bashrc,
.zshrc, .zshenv, etc.). Starting a non-interactive shell must generate
no output. E.g.,
$ bash -c true | od -x
0000000
but if I use zsh and put "echo foo" in .zshenv, I get this:
$ zsh -c true | od -xa
0000000 6f66 0a6f
f o o nl
0000004
