I tried to clear the history in using the code history -c .But it shows that fc: event not found: -c . what is the solution?

This is not really a question for bug-readline, since these are bash
builtins. The probable answer, without knowing much about your environment,
is that you have an alias for `history' that invokes `fc' with some set of
options.

Running `alias history' should tell you what it is.
