Readline emits input-area-start-style after it has written the prompt,
and writes input-area-end-style on Enter or when it needs to redisplay the
prompt.
How about a mix of the two approaches: two variables, active-region-start-
color and active-region-end-color. If defined, and they would both need to
be defined, they would replace so/se.
