I'm Arcxlinux user in the process of testing Amanda in order to migrate to it from Bacula. Yesterday on #amanda, I met another new Amanda user who was puzzled why his backups are empty. Today I hit the same problem and wondered what's wrong with my configuration trying almost everything. Finally I found the message in the archives and inform Amanda people in #amanda to update wiki (http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/FAQ:What_versions_of_GNU_Tar_are_Amanda-compatible%3F) which now have the following note: tar: 1.24 and 1.25 Bad* *These versions have a fatal flaw which causes backups to only contain the root directory and no files. See http://www.mail-archive.com/bug-tar@gnu.org/msg02999.html and http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.sysutils.backup.amanda.general/37932. Considering that GNU Tar is the heat soul of Amanda and that the bug has very serious consequences, here I'm submit my humble plea to GNU Tar developers to make new release which fixes this issue as soon as possible. My (archlinux) distro ships with 1.25 and I had to manually downgrade tar to 1.23 since 1.24 is affected as well.
