Hello,

I am trying to get GNU Tar to do incremental backups and am running into a hard
error. I've been using GNU Tar on my HP-UX systems for quite a while but I've
only been doing full backups but they are taking too long (6 hrs) and
incremental would be much better and faster.
The full tar backup runs fine and creates the snapshot file, but when I go to
run the incremental I get this error.

Unexpected field value in the snapshot file
Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I got the tar-snapshot-edit utility and it calls out this file system.

Obviously I'd like to be able to do Tar incrementals on my HP-UX LVM 2.2
version volume groups.
So my questions are:
Is there a fix hopefully in the works to support incrementals on HP-UX LVM 2.2
version volume groups?
Or is there workaround (other than changing the HP-UX LVM version 1 type volume
group?
A HP-UX GNU tar list?

Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.
If I am on the wrong list I apologize and request pointers to better suited
lists.
