Agreed.  Distributions should contain pre-generated pages rather than
building them on the target machine (which then additionally creates a
dependency for perl).

I have just put up a new version which includes a short texinfo document
(very much a work in progress) with some preliminary suggestions about
usage in Makefiles.

Note: this doc may need assignment papers...
