I looked at the sources of Emacs 20.3, and didn't find any error like
this: it does reuse the old regexp.

No, there's no anonymous CVS access to Emacs sources.  Even if it were
possible, you would not be able to find the version of info.el used by
Emacs 20.3 because the CVS tree is not tagged when a release is made.
