    I tried your file with a l·l, and I get ll in the output

Need to add @documentencoding ISO-8859-1 to use the upper half of
8859-1.  When I include that, I do get the dot in the output from the B7
char.  Similarly to use the characters in UTF-8 ... given that, I think
the basic output should be ok.  Let me know if still problems.
