Good point. I've found the following documentation for <synopsis>
http://www.docbook.org/tdg/en/html/synopsis.html

It looks like <superscript> and <subscript> are allowed. See Children
section, following "The following elements occur in synopsis".

Other tags that are also listed, but are not allowed at the moment by
DocBook.pm, are

citetitle, literal, command, firstterm, footnote, userinput, keycap, option

I'd suggest these be added, unless I am missing something.
