I have made this change. I have not decided what to do with line breaks yet. One issue is the use of the w-nolinebreak-text CSS class, which is now misnamed as it is used for @verb, not @w. This uses a CSS rule "white-space: nowrap" for <span> elements inserted around words containing hyphens or underscores. I doubt that this <span> and CSS rule does anything. I have not seen webbrowsers splitting lines at hyphens or underscores. It would be simplest to remove it.
