OK, so the automake manual says:
However ‘maintainer-clean’
should not delete anything that needs to exist in order to run
‘./configure && make’.
So it shouldn't be deleted by "make maintainer-clean", as otherwise
someone could run this command from a tarball and be unable to get
the file back ("make" would still work, but "make check" wouldn't).
