Comparing inputs of sort in textutils-1.22 and textutils-2.0 on redhat 6.1
with the patches installed properly to 1.22:

It seems that the findlines or some such routine is not properly identifying
the record separator, here is what compare is comparing at each point:

in compare

A AB
so, two compares are run.
