Probably. The problem is that wildcard expansion of the command line doesn't understand the command, and so doesn't know what to expand and what not. Quoting was supposed to be the user's tool to control the expansion, and it did work up until Windows Vista, when Microsoft in their infinite wisdom changed the long-standing behavior of their setargv code. I came up with the *.[d]at and similar tricks because I frequently need to invoke a port of Grep using the --include switch, where I have the same problem on Vista and newer systems.
