Follow-up Comment #1, bug #17234 (project xboard):
This is a known and documented limitation. See the LIMITATIONS section of
the documentation. It's up to the back end (chess engine or internet chess
server) to enforce the rules. XBoard just does a preliminary, incomplete
check for illegal moves.
