Follow-up Comment #1, bug #18687 (project xboard):
This happens because of a documented limitation: xboard doesn't check whether
possible en passant captures are actually legal (i.e., whether or not the pawn
to be captured just moved). In the given game, the illegal en passant capture
cxd3 would block the check, so xboard thinks the position is not mate yet.
