In general I think it's best to require pieces to be in upper case and
file letters in lower case.  Otherwise there is an ambiguity between b
for b-file and B for bishop in certain cases.  Not in piece drops, of
course, but I believe there is some ambiguous case (which I can't
remember offhand).  It can't be so hard for engine authors to print
"p...@b4" instead of "p...@b4".
