I forgot to respond to this. Because no settings appear to be read or
saved in ~/.xboardrc, I always get all 3 new windows when I invoke
xboard, and I always shut them down because they obstruct my view. When
we solve the settings problem I'm having, then the persistence of these
windows and presumably their locations will no longer cause irritation :)
