I tried it in WinBoard now, and I think I also found the ideal key for this.
<Enter> in WinBoard as already taken, because it is forwarded to the ICS
console.
(The XBoard equivalent would be to make it trigger sending the message
currently
in the ICS input box.)
I tried <Tab>, but there the system already intercepts the key-down events,
as it
is a standard binding for changing between input field.
But then I noticed the <Backspace> key. It is larger than most, universally
present
on keyboards it had no binding yet, and its name ideally matches the function!
Making the auto-repeat move the piece back and forth also looks quite nice.
