Follow-up Comment #1, bug #39970 (project xboard):
Unfortunately that patch makes it impossible to compile XBoard for people that
have gettext 0.17 (= me).
The only solution seems to be to install gettext 0.17 before you configure, as
apparently autoconf is not smart enough to check which gettext version you
have installed, and adapt the requested gettext version to that by itself.
