Hello,

I use Xboard 4.9.1 on the following machine:

Computer
Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00GHz
Memory 2897MB (751MB used)
Machine Type Notebook (Toshiba)
Operating System Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
User Name viktor (Viktor)
Date/Time Št 7. máj 2020, 18:15:50 CEST
I encountered an error and experienced hard time to solve it because, I
think, Xboard did not report an error in the beginning when it
first encountered a problem.
Here is the description:
I wanted to start Xboard with Crafty engine so I used the command line *xboard
-fcp Crafty*. After Xboard started it displayed the message: "*Starting
chess program*" for 11 seconds and nothing more. Then after my first move
it displayed *Fatal Error "Error writing to first chess program: Broken
pipe"*. After clicking *Ok* Xboard closed.
Problem was in the command line, crafty had to be written with small "c",
not capital like above. After changing the command line, the message:
"*Starting
chess program*" appeared for less than a second and everything was OK.
So I think that Xboard should display an error message after not being able
to load the chess engine.

Thank you!

I like Xboard very much and used it also on Windows many years before.

Viktor
