Indeed, I think they packaged the wrong (Xaw) build. Nothink we can do
about that, we still suport both builds.

Previous version, 4.9.1-2+b1, has correct anti-alias in menus, and they
do not collapse if the mouse is not pressed.
Do you think this is exclusively a debian/ubuntu issue ?

The image does not look like the GTK build (non-anti-aliased text in
menu bar and clock).
And even though I forgot what could produce the error popup, it doesn't
sound like an error that would make sense for a GTK version.

in Ubuntu 25.04. Does not install GTK version. When selecting
View/Fonts I get
the GTK build deeor in screenshot.
