I looked a few obvious causes (mis-alignment or off-by-one errors), but
nothing of that sort seems to be happening. Then I attempted to retrieve
the partition content before and after a download, just to find that I
was getting garbage. I've postponed this now until I've made myself better
tools. Will try again later this week.

This was fixed in r1769 by Mickey and works apart from the GSM modem being laggy

I thought the arrows were to indicate gprs connectivity, right?
If that were the case we would need to register SIGNAL_GSMD_EVT_IN_GPRS (how do
we determine the end of that connection?) and change the value of gprs_mode
accordingly.

So it looks like the real issue is that the font sizes are fixed? There should
be no hard coding of sizes in the application if at all possible.
