#1074: Change Root Password
----------------------------------+-----------------------------------------
Reporter: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | Owner: mickey
Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: high | Milestone:
Component: Distro | Version: current svn head
Severity: normal | Resolution:
Keywords: | Blockedby:
Reproducible: | Blocking:
----------------------------------+-----------------------------------------
Changes (by zecke):
* component: Applications & Dependencies => Distro
Comment:
Setting the distro into release mode (that zaps the password and forbids
password less login) was reverted before the Om2008.8 release.
We should have another attempt...We have a patch to bind dropbear on usb0
only and could ask the user to enter a password at startup...

#1879: [unstable] attempting to bond crashes hcid

Comment(by Mercury):
Your logic scanner has a more rigid definition of crashing than mine.
It's locks up competely.
I also posted a link to a tutorial which has instructions on how to bond
with a device. I could enumerate the steps in greater detail if that link
isn't sufficient? This should work (Just change over to the unstable
feed, run opkg upgrade, and run this.) :
1) make sure hcid is running
2) Run passkey-agent 0000 aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff (or any other mac)
3) logread -f <-- flood o' text.
Also I apologize for not sending 'opkg list_installed' At the time I
filed this ticket I don't believe that policy was in place. However,
perhaps instead of requiring a list of package versions and such it may be
better to just instruct people to upgrade to the most recent versions on
the feed instead. Since that may actually eliminate bugs before they're
reported, and it's a lot easier to type (As I did in the ticket
description) 'I'm using the unstable opkg feed from
downloads.openmoko.org'
Unfortunately, I have since downgrated my bluez-utils and the problem is
gone now, and I don't plan on upgrading again, so if I generated 'opkg
list_installed' right now it won't be as useful for you.

Comment(by emartini):
I observed something similar. Each rootfs after 2008-08-29 let's
authentication fail and finally leads to a frozen condition (after several
auth attempts) if you won't swith of WiFi.
Update was made via full flashing of kernel and rootfs.

Comment(by Wonka):
Yeah, circus...
My O2 SIM looks like ChaosEagle's older one. Picture at
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Image:O2-sim-nonworking-tesa.jpg - one can
see two strips of tesa film above and below the six contact pads. The SIM
works in this configuration in my Siemens S65 and can connect to the
Internet via GPRS; in the Freerunner there are CME errors 15 and 32. PINs
were set, unset, activated, deactivated, set to "0000", nothing worked.
I also tried another SIM (an older T-D1 Xtra prepaid) in the Freerunner;
with that one, connecting to the Internet via GPRS works.
Summary:
- no short circuit with sim card holder problem
- O2 SIM works with other device
- FR works with other SIM
- only combination FR + O2 SIM does not work
gsm_log might follow later
