 You had my word for getting a logread asap, well here it comes.

 My distro is now Om2008.9 (updated).

 '''My fairy? tale:'''
 After 7 hours that my gsm was up and running, it cannot get phone calls
 reliable. I phoned it (After I had put my phone out of suspend, 15 minutes
 before) 9 times. 7 times I get immediately the voice mail. 1 time I get
 the normal tone but my phone doesn't ring. 1 time it rings as it should
 be. This all when I look at the status icon and see a network connectivity
 of 4 blocks.

 ps: I haven't had any problems with getting sms' and sending sms'.

 Using FDOM, ASU 2008.8 and ASU 2008.9, it is impossible to join my home
 and work WEP enabled network using the "Settings" application.

 It could have something to do with the fact that when typing the key in
 using the QWERTY keyboard, it appears that more characters are being
 echoed than are actually being typed. The first character of each string
 seems to echo an extra time (once for when it is pressed, then once when
 it is accepted as it were). So if the key is 1234, I would see *****.
 That is one too many characters. However this could be completely
 unrelated.

 I can connect to the same network when I turn WEP off. But at work, there
 is no possibility. It'd be nice to be untethered and have fast internet.
 :)

 If you need anything more from me on this, let me know.

 I did read that document and I didn't set a component, so it might be a
 browser compatibility issue (I'm using Konqueror from KDE 4.1.1).

 There was a demonstration on the Linux Plumbers Conference from Arjan von
 de Ven and Auke Kok on booting a Linux system in 5 seconds. Maybe you can
 get some hints from this article.

Comment(by vnevoa):

 Ok, I've added the logread.
 My reproduction of the problem starts at line 566.
 Steps taken:
 1 - compose and send an SMS message to myself (body has "test");
 2 - receive the class 0 SMS with the pre-paid account's current sale;
 3 - receive the normal SMS I wrote to myself (say NO to qtopia's
 question).
 Anything else?

Comment:

 Recently we investigated the WiFi connection issues. During that process I
 had a deeper look at the network manager (connman) sources which are used
 by the stettings UI. It turns out that it does not support any encryption
 method other than WPA-PSK.
 We put the network manager on the table again and are looking at other
 options.
