Possible memory leak with httpd 1.3.26 core

Summary: Possible memory leak with httpd 1.3.26 core
           Product: Apache httpd-1.3
           Version: 1.3.26
          Platform: Sun
        OS/Version: Solaris
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: core
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I am running httpd 1.3.26 (OpenSSL 0.9.6e) on solaris (5.8 Generic_108528-12
sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R) and have noticed that over a 3 - 4 week period,
memory usage slowly ramps up from about 10% usage (2% swap) to about 85% usage
(40% swap) in about 3 - 4 weeks (this may indicate a memory leak).

So, we restart the server and watch it grow again. We are starting up 100
spare servers (total of 101 including the main one) initially. I realize that
these servers will spin-up the system's resources when utilized, but shouldn't
they release the memory when they are no longer used?

Thanks, Bill
