http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27996 DocumentRoot set to remote drive and service account Summary: DocumentRoot set to remote drive and service account Product: Apache httpd-1.3 Version: 1.3.29 Platform: PC OS/Version: Windows NT/2K Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: Other Component: Documentation AssignedTo: [email protected] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please enter a new FAQ on setting DocumentRoot in the case of remote NTFS drives. If you are using a remote drive, you must run the service as a user who has access to the remote drive. eg: When you install apache on a PC, and the documentroot is on a fileserver, you MUST go into the service panel, double click on Apache, select the Log On tab, and set the login to * This account MYDOMAN\myusername (use an account with access to the drive), and give your account password. If you don't, the web server does not have access to the path in the httpd.conf file! You then restart the server to run as the new user. If the user does not set up the service correctly, he can read through the books on the httpd.conf file until he is blue in the face and never get remote drives to work (since the problem is not in the file :-) The default install sets up the service, and does not ask or otherwise warn about this feature. If this is entered somewhere, it's hidden very well!
