I totally agree that such can be annoying. This is why the startup group is chosen over the HKxx/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run, which is much more insidious. It will again create these shortcuts. However, it is not a 'key' resource. If you remove this shortcut, the installer should not believe the package has been broken.
