Can you confirm with wireshark that the client never put its certificate on the wire? I know IE10+ w/ TLS1.2 won't accept md2 or md5 anywhere in the servers cert chain, and also that TLS1.2 has a way for peers to tell eachother what sigalgs are acceptable.
