It looks like there was a configuration problem early in the switch which made PHP pages download as text. This was quickly fixed, but the browser ended up CACHING those faulty pages. And unfortunately you can't CTRL+F5 a file download, so the issue remained very 'sticky' until I manually cleared the browser cache.
