Web Server implements Apache mod_proxy (3rd party module) to load balance
requests to app hosts. Requests from webserver to app hosts failed with:
▎ 503 Service Unavailable — All workers in an error state, blank worker route
information
This caused incoming messages and customer requests to fail to process across
multiple data centers.
- mod_proxy_hcheck exhibits abnormal behavior when a balancer member goes down
for an extended period — health check activity stops or slows down entirely for
that member
- Upon recovery of the down member, health checks fire in excess for all
balancer members, far exceeding the configured hcinterval
- This causes high CPU and memory consumption in httpd threads, with thread
pool exhaustion
We ran into multiple customer CIRS while adopting this mod_proxy_hcheck module
Could you please provide the information if there is any plan to remove
vulnerabilities from mod_proxy_hcheck module.
