Today I bought a new Medion AKOYA E2068 D pc with a RTL8111 F nic.
The problem is that any other system on the LAN seems to ignore packets
from this nic.
I tried it with a fresh installed OpenBSD 5.0 installation, but also via
de Shell of the OpenBSD 5.0
install50.iso and the OpenBSD 4.6 install46.iso.
I already see in the dmesg that it does not fully recognize the nic
correctly.
Also this chipset is not showing up in the OpenBSD i386 Supported
HArdware list,
so I'm wondering whether this is a bug or just not supported hardware.
Anyway, running Wireshark on the counterpart machine shows that when pinging
the RTL8111 it does send back an ICMP Reply, but it appears to be
ignored by the source.
When the RTL8111 sends the ICMP Echo, no ICMP Reply is being send
(again, it appears
that the packet from RTL8111 is being ignored.
Funny thing is that when the Medion pc is booting and using DHCP, it
will get an DHCP ACK
and it will configure a correct DHCP address from the DCHP server on its
interface.
Attached you can find the dmesg.boot output and the wireshark traces of
the ICMP Echo and Reply.
