hi,
on my macbook pro 8,3 (late 2011, A1297), atapiscsi timeouts and
ultimately fails while trying to bring up the optical drive. i see
this message six times during boot, with about 30 seconds or so
between each occurrence:

afterwords, the message changes to this and repeats another five times
at the same interval:

this makes booting take an annoyingly long time, and can be "fixed" by
disabling atapiscsi altogether with `config`, however this is less
than ideal. i've tried changing atapiscsi's bit flags to test various
PIO/UltraDMA modes to no avail. i have also tried compiling a -current
kernel with debug flags (as well as SCSIDEBUG) but i run into type
issues during compilation (unsigned longs passed instead of size_t's).
i believe the problem lies within /sys/dev/atapiscsi/atapiscsi.c which
is where i'm currently working on a fix.
the drive itself is a "SuperDrive 8x", which is unfortunately entirely
apple's handiwork and is very hard to find relevant technical
details/specs.
