FWIW, I have a powered USB3 hub that let's everything work through my
USB 3 port. Otherwise several things won't work except through the USB 2
port. (USB 2 devices)
I have a powered hub due to using a hard drive and WiFi.

Just thought it worth mentioning on this topic.
