The driver is present in the kernel, it isn't a separate thing which gets
installed. If detected the interface would show up in ifconfig before the
firmware was loaded. The fact that it doesn't show up shows that it
wasn't detected.

dmesg might give some more clues (either copy via a USB stick, or use
wired ethernet).

Make sure that wifi is not disabled in BIOS if it gives that option.
