Sheer magic Jonathon.

The response  from 'disable amdgpu' was:

245 amdgpu* disabled

and the machine is now at the login: prompt.

I will need time to get the machine configured to fetch source code from
my local repository, and then build the kernel.  I should have build
results tomorrow.
