ah!

when the machine is up it cleanly shuts down with a short press on the
power button. when i try to suspend it does nothing.

i'm not sure since i haven't been able to reproduce, but one time i
think i managed to get it resume by pressing some keys on the keyboard.
but was just once while was doing a lot of tests, so maybe it didn't
even suspended completely.

pressing the power button usually. since it doesn't suspend correctly,
i don't really close the lid.

I tried with an ubuntu live on a usb stick and it's just like i
remember: upon suspend it goes from solid to slow blink (with a pattern
of roughly 4 seconds of light and four of none)

on openbsd instead it turns off, then after some seconds it blinks fast
a few times, then solid)

Thanks, and sorry again for the delay in replying.
