Right, it makes sense: simplifies the code/manual by removing a
deprecated feature.

NIST still provides the "TIME protocol":

$ rdate -po time-a-g.nist.gov
Thu Mar 26 11:42:20 UTC 2026

But I agree, NTP would be preferable.  (and NIST provides both protocols)
