Yes, had the same issue on Debian. Arnaud van Dyck made a page describing how to compile (icedtea derived from openjdk) on Debian using a couple of small patches: http://icedtea.classpath.org/wiki/DebianBuildingInstructions Some of those patches might also be appropriate for your suse system.
