At some point a few years ago I explored a private testing pipeline that built 
VM with different combination of options. It worked, but there were so many 
issues that cropped up continuously that I scratched that off as the lost 
cause. I gave up even on building Minimal. Fixing the particular build 
configurations every once in a while -- like this PR -- seems to be a pragmatic 
compromise.
