With all of the uncertainty and varied opinions surrounding HIPAA, I have heard a number of different opinions on the impact of the transaction extension. I have a two part question related to a previous thread, but I would like to request some clarification.
1. How will entities who choose to comply with the original October 2002 deadline handle transactions from organizations who opt for an extension? Will the compliant entity be required to accept both the standardized and non-standardized formats until October 2003? 2. Am I correct in reading that Medicare will accept ONLY standardized electronic transactions as of October 2002? If so, will this require that providers applying for an extension submit paper claims until October 2003 or they are compliant with the standardized format (whichever comes first)? Any insight would help. -Jonathan May _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ********************************************************************** To be removed from this list, go to: http://snip.wedi.org/unsubscribe.cfm?list=business and enter your email address.
