I looked at it yesterday when I was working on getting my cryptpw applet running on 1.5.0 and yes, it's a bit outdated. The patch you mention (if it's the one i found, which I wrote) has been added. I'll try to update the howto while adding/fixing my applet. Not sure how long it'll take though.
