I am putting my head in this unnecessaryly. I dont have any Technical
qualification on this subject but love to photograph them. I have about 2 Acre
land as my garden. We prefer to look for butterflies ones early morning means
at the time of sunrise, Then about 8 AM. 10, AM AND IF Sun is bright then about
11-11.30.
Again in the afternoon between 3-4 and once before sunset only if we want to
check some roosting buttrflies for the morning.
this shows us almost every speci of the butterfly visiting the garden on that
day.
Check how many fod plants for adults and larvae you have in that locality but
some expert may tell you better who knows that area well.
Best wishes.

Subject: [ButterflyIndia] Butterfly diversity/density studies

Hi everyone,
As a part of my MSc project, i need to take transects to determine
butterfly diversity and density in 4 different regions of Pune city.
I've chosen the following areas:
1.Karve road from Garware college-Prabhat road- Bhandarkar Road
2.Fergusson college hill
3.Yerawada-Bund garden area
4.Wanawadi-NIBM road-Undri area

I have some very basic queries, and would be grateful if someone
could help me out with the same:
1. For butterfly diversity, will a time based transect be
appropriate/ should i take a line/belt transect?
2.What should be the minimum size of the transect line?
3.is it right that i need to cover atleast 2% of the area?
4.How many transects will be required?
5.Butterfly variation over seasons should be taken care of and so
I've decided to take transects in this monsoon (october), winter (dec-
jan) and then in early summer (april). Any additional suggestions for
the same?

I would be grateful to hear from anyone who can help me.
Thank you in advance,
Karishma Lamba
