Hi all,

Hv noted time and again members are posting mail with large attachments, I do
understand that this happens sometimes due to error / oversight.

Could there be a solution to this problem???

There are a number of software available to trim and lessen the size of the
pics prior posting.

The reason for reducing the size of pics is to not use too much bandwidth. Also
a number of people including students use this forum and they would not have
"unlimited download plans"

1. Education to use software to trim the size of the pics.
Presently I am using a software called 'Irfan view'. This is a free software of
small size (a couple of mb) that you can download from the net.
First open your pic in this software, then using the 'image' option in the menu
go to 'Resize/resample' in this dialogue box select the new size, click the
'maintain aspect ratio' box and in the DPI box feed 72dpi, there is also a
dropdown menu for various sizes available. After clicking the OK button, you
will have the reduced size picture, which you can further 'crop' to eliminate
the parts which are not of interest to the discussion. Then save this
file.......

2. The group moderators to check with Yahoo if it is possible to set a switch
where by a message with a size larger than the acceptable is bounced.
If Yahoo is not able to provide this then check with google groups or anywhere
else... Personally I think this is the 'best' solution :-) as in all discussion
groups we will go on getting new members and ever so often this problem will
come up...

3. Also another solution is not to use e-mail clients (outlook express etc) to
down load your mail but to use the browser to check your web mail account. When
you do this all pics will appear as icons (small size) and will only open if
you click them, thereby you can save your download usage. This is also a 'good'
solution, you will never finding persons using this system complaining of large
attachments being posted :-)

4. I request others with more experience / professional knowledge on this topic
to bring forth a 'better' solution.

Lastly I must add that the intention of this e-mail is not to vex anybody,
least of all the moderators and senior members .....

Blaise
