Hello Soma, there are Dry season form(DSF) and Wet season form(WSF) in butterflies. The prominence of rings is seen in WSF and the rings lighten in the DSF. u can refer Krushnameghs paper titled "Seasonal patterns on butterfly abundance and species diversity in four tropical habitats in Northern Western Ghats" to understand more about the DSF in grass yellows and link it to ur querry.
